Perplexity Portable Computer Available in Windows App for PCs with RTX GPUs
Perplexity has made the locally oriented Portable Computer agent available in its Windows app. It requires a compatible NVIDIA RTX GPU with at least 24 GB of VRAM.
Perplexity Portable Computer is now available in the Perplexity app for Windows, following its original launch for NVIDIA DGX Spark and Linux. On September 14, 2026, NVIDIA announced that the feature is intended for computers with NVIDIA GeForce RTX or NVIDIA RTX PRO graphics cards with at least 24 GB of VRAM.
Portable Computer is a local version of the Perplexity Computer agent, which is designed to perform multi-step tasks. According to NVIDIA, tasks processed locally run directly on the device and are not supposed to consume Perplexity Computer credits.
Perplexity Portable Computer and hardware requirements
The key requirement is at least 24 GB of VRAM. Computers with less graphics memory do not meet this stated hardware requirement.
NVIDIA mentions the local Qwen 3.8 27B model as an example. However, the currently available announcement does not make clear exactly which model configurations will be available on individual supported Windows computers. The complete list of compatible graphics cards and subscription terms for the Windows release have also not been confirmed.
Local processing is not always completely offline
The principle behind Portable Computer is the local execution of some agent tasks, which may be relevant when working with sensitive files on one’s own device. However, this does not guarantee that all scenarios will run without communication with the cloud.
For tasks that require more advanced reasoning, the system may ask the user for permission to send data to a cloud model. NVIDIA states that such a transfer will occur only after the user’s consent. However, it has not been independently verified to what extent all connectors and workflows remain exclusively local during ordinary use.
Expansion after the launch on DGX Spark and Linux
Perplexity originally introduced Portable Computer as a locally oriented product for NVIDIA DGX Spark and Linux systems. Windows support was announced at the time as forthcoming. NVIDIA’s new announcement therefore expands availability to Windows, although with a requirement of at least 24 GB of VRAM.
It is not yet clear whether Perplexity will release separate documentation for Windows. Questions remain open particularly about which models, connectors and features will be available, which data flows may be directed to the cloud, and how the tool will perform on 24 GB RTX GPUs outside the NVIDIA DGX Spark platform.
