TCS HyperVault Plans AI Data Campus of Up to 1 GW in Hyderabad

TCS subsidiary HyperVault has acquired 264 acres in Hyderabad for an AI data campus with a planned capacity of up to 1 GW. The project is expected to be built in phases based on demand.

The TCS HyperVault project in Hyderabad is a planned AI data center campus for which Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) subsidiary HyperVault acquired 264 acres of land in the Indian city of Hyderabad, in the state of Telangana. TCS said the complex could have a capacity of up to 1 GW, but it will be built gradually based on customer demand and technology requirements.

HyperVault and its partners are expected to invest up to 70,000 crore rupees, or 700 billion rupees, in constructing and operating the infrastructure. However, this is not a confirmed one-time investment by TCS itself. The company is referring to the maximum investment by HyperVault and its partners during the project’s phased implementation.

TCS HyperVault Hyderabad Is Targeting GPU Infrastructure

The planned campus is to be designed for high-density deployments of graphics processing units (GPUs), which are used to train and operate advanced artificial intelligence models. TCS expects to use liquid cooling and identifies companies developing advanced AI and hyperscalers—large cloud infrastructure operators—as target clients.

The 1 GW capacity does not mean that this amount of power will be available immediately after opening. TCS says construction will be phased according to customer demand and technical requirements. The company has not yet disclosed a construction start schedule, completion date or final capacity for individual phases.

The campus tenant list is likewise unconfirmed. In April, TCS announced an agreement between HyperVault and OpenAI on AI infrastructure in India. It is to begin with a capacity of 100 MW and allow expansion to up to 1 GW. However, available announcements do not indicate whether this agreement will concern the Hyderabad site specifically.

TCS Expands Into Capital-Intensive Infrastructure

The announcement signals an expansion of TCS’s activities from IT services into building AI infrastructure. If the campus is developed at full scale, it would rank among the largest planned AI data complexes in India and expand the supply of computing resources for developing and operating models.

However, the project’s scope should be viewed as a long-term plan, not as a completed data center with 1 GW of capacity. Implementation will depend on construction phases, demand, financing, power connections and the necessary permits.

For the project, TCS has stated goals related to water-neutral operations, green energy and job creation. However, these are not independently verified results or published operating parameters. The company has not announced specific electricity sources, its water management approach or details of the grid connection.
