Trump Announces Super Intelligence Force to Coordinate AI

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the creation of the interagency Super Intelligence Force to coordinate federal efforts in artificial intelligence. Its powers, budget and timeline have not yet been disclosed.

President Donald Trump announced on October 4 the creation of the Super Intelligence Force (SIF), which is intended to coordinate federal efforts in artificial intelligence. In the announcement, the administration refers to AI as “super intelligence.”

The group is supposed to report directly to the president and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. However, the information released so far does not clarify the legal basis on which it will operate or what specific steps it is supposed to prepare.

Super Intelligence Force to be led by four officials

Trump named Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Department of Defense official Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Scott Kupor as the SIF’s leaders.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence confirms that Clayton took office on August 3, 2026. His participation, together with officials from the FTC, Department of Defense and OPM, reflects the involvement of intelligence, regulatory, defense and personnel authorities in one group.

However, it is not accurate to describe Clayton as a separate “AI czar.” That characterization is a media interpretation: the president’s announcement identifies him as one of the group’s four leaders.

Mandate and powers remain unknown

The available materials do not specify an executive order, statutory mandate, budget, staffing structure or binding work timeline for SIF. It has also not been confirmed whether the group will have its own executive or regulatory powers, or whether its recommendations will be binding on federal agencies.

For now, the group’s primary confirmed role is coordination. Its practical impact on companies and users cannot be determined without additional documents.

What to watch after the SIF announcement

More information may come from a formal founding document, charter or executive order. The announcement of deadlines, a budget, staffing and the group’s specific tasks will also be important.

Areas worth watching may include model safety, AI infrastructure, federal procurement or regulation. So far, however, no specific recommendations or rules have been announced.
