Project Tachyon Begins Integration into Zakura Common

Project Tachyon has begun upstreaming recursive proofs into Zakura Common, Zcash’s cryptographic stack. The step does not yet change the mainnet or the confirmed scope of the NU7 upgrade.

Tachyon integration into Zakura Common began on September 28, 2026. In a blog announcement, Project Tachyon said it is upstreaming its recursive proofs into Zakura Common, Zcash’s new cryptographic stack. This is a development and integration step, not a deployment of Tachyon to the Zcash mainnet.

The announcement also does not confirm any change to the parameters of the upcoming NU7 network upgrade. For Zcash users, this stage therefore does not immediately change how the network operates or the nature of private payments.

What Tachyon’s Integration into Zakura Common Means

Zakura is an open-source Zcash full node written in Rust and compatible with network consensus. The project repository describes it as infrastructure for future cryptographic optimizations from the Tachyon and Valar projects.

Project Tachyon focuses on broader changes to the cryptography and delivery of shielded payments. Upstreaming recursive proofs into Zakura Common therefore connects Tachyon’s research and development work with the software stack on which these future optimizations are intended to operate.

However, the announcement did not publish benchmarks, performance comparisons, or a timeline for when the integration might deliver measurable speed improvements for private payments.

NU7 Has a Different Immediate Scope

The report also separates work on Tachyon from the upcoming NU7 upgrade. According to the published schedule, NU7 is primarily intended to address a shorter block interval. The NU7 schedule explicitly states that new transaction formats are not part of this upgrade.

It is therefore not confirmed that integrating recursive proofs into Zakura Common will be part of NU7, which is planned for November 2026. The decision on activating NU7 is scheduled to be monitored on October 20, 2026. The start of integration also does not mean that Tachyon will be included in the upgrade’s scope at that time.

The distinction is also important when assessing the announcement. NU7 represents a separate, nearer-term step in the network’s development, while Tachyon’s roadmap discusses components that are still under development. These include Ragu and a new shielded protocol.

Development, Testing, and Approval Remain Before Deployment

Project Tachyon’s roadmap states that before any potential deployment, the components must undergo optimization, security audits, testnet validation, and community approval. Tachyon’s integration into Zakura Common is therefore one part of a broader process, not confirmation that it is ready for activation on the production network.

When assessing the plans, development goals must be distinguished from Zcash’s currently available features. Claims of scaling to tens of thousands of transactions per second are a goal for Zakura, not a verified current capacity of the network.

The next concrete signs of progress will be pull requests, tests, or benchmarks for recursive proofs in Zakura Common. The publication of a testnet and audit schedule for Ragu and the new shielded pool will also be important. For now, the announced step expands the integration of development projects but does not change the rules of the Zcash mainnet.
