Waymo Plans Robotaxi Service in Singapore by 2028
Waymo is entering Singapore in cooperation with the city-state’s transportation authorities. The first Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles are expected to arrive in the coming months, while public service remains a target for 2028.

Waymo Singapore robotaxi is the American company’s plan to launch a fully autonomous electric transportation service in the city-state through its own app in 2028. The company announced its entry on September 17, 2026, in cooperation with Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Authority (LTA). The regulator subsequently confirmed that Waymo will be the country’s newest autonomous vehicle operator.
However, this does not mean the immediate deployment of a service for passengers. The project must first go through a preparation and testing phase, while the commercial launch date in 2028 remains a plan subject to the necessary approvals.
Waymo Singapore robotaxi will begin with Jaguar I-PACE vehicles
Waymo said the first Jaguar I-PACE electric SUVs are expected to arrive in Singapore in the coming months. These vehicles will be powered by the Waymo Driver autonomous driving system.
A preparation phase is scheduled to follow in 2027. Trained specialists will initially drive the vehicles manually while adapting the Waymo Driver system to local roads and conditions. The explicitly mentioned factors also include monsoon conditions.
This means that publicly available driverless rides will not be offered in the immediate future. The goal of the preparation is to gain experience with the local environment before potential commercial deployment.
Regulator confirms new operator
On September 18, the LTA confirmed that Waymo will be Singapore’s newest autonomous vehicle operator. The involvement of the local transportation regulator gives the project a more specific framework than the company’s announcement alone.
Waymo and the LTA say they intend to make the service available to the public in 2028. Waymo also states that regulatory approvals are needed. Therefore, 2028 is not a confirmed date for the full launch, but a stated commercial target.
What Waymo has not disclosed yet
The announcement does not include several practical details about the future service. The fleet size, exact operating area, and ride prices are not known. The company also did not provide a specific launch date in 2028.
- arrival of the Jaguar I-PACE vehicles and start of manual driving,
- LTA decisions on permits and safety requirements,
- operating zone, fleet size, and pricing,
- specific public launch schedule.
Singapore is Waymo’s first confirmed entry into Southeast Asia. The company also lists plans for Tokyo, London, and Munich, so Singapore cannot yet be precisely described as Waymo’s next international city in sequence. What is confirmed is that the Singapore project remains in the preparation phase and commercial operations have not yet begun.
