Deutsche Bank Plans Digital Asset Custody for Companies and Institutions
Deutsche Bank wants to launch a digital asset custody service in Europe for institutional and corporate clients later in 2026. The timing depends on completing the regulatory process.

Digital asset custody from Deutsche Bank is intended to be a new service for institutional and corporate clients in Europe. The German bank announced on September 16, 2026, that it plans to launch it later this year, but completion of the relevant regulatory process is a condition.
This is not a product already available to clients. Deutsche Bank did not provide an exact launch date, identify the specific missing authorization, or name the regulator overseeing the process. The geographic scope, final list of supported assets, and precise service parameters may still change.
Digital Asset Custody for Professional Clients
The service is intended to target asset managers, hedge funds, brokers, custodians, and government institutions. Deutsche Bank is expected to manage digital wallets and private keys for clients—the data required to control and transfer digital assets.
At launch, the platform is expected to support:
- Bitcoin,
- Ether,
- selected stablecoins or electronic money tokens, including USDC, EURC, and EURAU.
Tokenized financial instruments are not yet part of the initial offering. The bank describes them as part of the service’s future development.
Key Management and Operational Processes
For digital assets, custody includes private key management, operational controls, and the secure execution of transfers. For companies and institutions that do not want to operate these processes themselves, bank custody may represent an important infrastructure service.
The announcement represents the planned entry of a major European universal bank into direct cryptocurrency custody for professional clients. Its practical impact, however, will only emerge after the regulatory process is completed and the first clients actually come on board.
What Comes Next
The next steps will be confirming the completion of the regulatory process and announcing the start date for operations. It will also be important to see which European countries Deutsche Bank makes the service available in and who begins using it.
The bank may later clarify the final selection of supported digital assets. Its future plans include tokenized financial instruments, but their inclusion and timeline have not yet been announced.
