Polish Sejm Fails to Override Crypto-Asset Veto for Third Time

On September 4, 2026, Poland’s Sejm failed to secure the required three-fifths majority to override the president’s veto of the crypto-asset market law.

Crypto-asset veto was not overridden by Poland’s Sejm on its third attempt either. On September 4, 2026, Parliament failed to secure the required three-fifths majority to reject the president’s veto of the crypto-asset market law. A total of 241 lawmakers voted in favor, 198 against, and three abstained.

This was the third unsuccessful parliamentary attempt to override the veto of the crypto-asset market regulation. Poland therefore still does not have this approved domestic framework for oversight and rules governing the crypto-asset market, increasing regulatory uncertainty for local service providers.

Sejm Fails to Override Crypto-Asset Veto for Third Time

Before the vote, the Sejm confirmed that it was considering the third presidential veto of the crypto-asset market law. According to the voting results, the required three-fifths majority was not reached.

It has not been confirmed what the schedule or final content of any potential new proposal will be following the failure of the third attempt.

Zondacrypto Investigation Continues

The vote took place during an investigation involving Zondacrypto. Poland’s prosecution service has been conducting the investigation since April 17, 2026. The official overview from Prokuratura Krajowa lists the exchange operator’s bankruptcy on September 2 and the arrests and charges against additional individuals on September 2–3.

The investigation concerns suspicions of fraud and money laundering. This is an investigative phase, not a final finding of guilt against Zondacrypto or any specific individuals.

The timing of these events and the vote, by itself, does not confirm that the Zondacrypto case directly influenced the Sejm’s result. Such a causal relationship does not follow from the confirmed information.

What Comes Next

It will be important to monitor whether the government or lawmakers submit a new version of the crypto-asset market law and what powers KNF would receive under it. The schedule and content of any potential new regulation have not yet been confirmed.

In the Zondacrypto case, further information may come from prosecution announcements concerning charges, detention, seized assets, or the operator’s bankruptcy. The continuity of services provided by Polish crypto companies and the situation of clients affected by the bankruptcy also remain practical concerns.
