Anthropic Will Permanently Raise Claude Code Limits, but They’ll Fall Compared with the Promotion
Anthropic plans to raise Claude Code’s standard weekly limits by 25% starting September 14. Compared with the current temporary 50% increase, this will represent a decline of approximately 17%.
Claude Code limits are set to permanently increase by 25% from the original standard level starting September 14, 2026. However, for users currently benefiting from the temporary 50% increase, the change means a roughly 17% reduction in weekly capacity.
The announcement was published by the ClaudeDevs account. According to it, the permanent increase will apply to the Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans with seat-based licenses. The change is currently planned and is not yet in effect.
Claude Code limits: 125% instead of the current 150%
At first glance, claims about both increasing and decreasing limits may seem contradictory. However, they compare two different reference levels.
Anthropic currently offers selected paying Claude Code customers a promotion that increased weekly limits by 50% compared with the standard level. This means 150% of the original limit is available during the promotion. Starting September 14, the permanent setting is expected to be 125% of the original level.
The 125% level is 16.7% lower than 150%, which Anthropic rounds to 17%. The new limit will therefore be higher than the pre-promotion standard, but lower than the limit available during the current temporary period.
The original promotion page lists an end date in August
Anthropic’s official Help Center still describes the 50% increase as a promotion valid from May 13 through August 31, 2026. The document also states that it applies exclusively to Claude Code weekly limits, not five-hour limits.
A later statement from the ClaudeDevs account says the 50% increase will remain in effect through September 14. The support page has not yet been updated with this new date, so a discrepancy temporarily remains between Anthropic’s channels for the period from September 1 through 13.
Confirmation or clarification of this period will depend on an update to the official documentation.
Capacity is not a fixed number of tasks
Claude Code weekly limits do not represent a fixed number of messages, requests or completed programming tasks. According to Anthropic, usage is affected by the model used, the length and complexity of the conversation, tool use and the selected effort level.
This also means that a permanent 25% increase may not result in the same number of additional tasks for every user in practice. Anthropic has not stated whether the practically available capacity will change equally across different models and ways of using Claude Code.
The company has also announced further changes intended to improve visibility into and control over usage. It has not yet disclosed the specific form or timing of these tools.
