Google Adds Flight Price Tracking and Hotel Reservations to AI Mode
According to TechCrunch, Google’s AI Mode is expanding with flight price tracking, hotel reservations, and the ability to use points or miles. Google confirms direct hotel reservations in its documentation, but for now only in the US and in English.

AI Mode hotel reservations move Google Search beyond trip planning and closer to the purchase itself. On August 27, TechCrunch reported that Google is adding flight price tracking, help with hotel reservations, and the ability to compare flights or hotels using points or miles in AI Mode. Google’s official documentation confirms at least the direct hotel reservation feature.
AI Mode hotel reservations work through “Continue on Google”
For a hotel room, users can continue in AI Mode with the “Continue on Google” feature. Google says this allows the reservation to be completed directly within the AI Mode interface, without separately visiting a booking website.
However, Google is not the merchant or a contractual party to the reservation in this process. Payment, order confirmation, and subsequent customer support are handled by the hotel, merchant, or booking partner. If a problem arises with changing the dates, cancellation, or a refund, users will need to contact that partner, not Google.
According to the documentation, the feature is currently available only in the US and in English. Users must be signed in to a Google account, have a payment method saved in Google Pay, and have a US address in Google Pay. AI Mode hotel reservations are therefore not yet available outside this market.
Flight prices, points, and miles
TechCrunch also reported on flight price tracking and converting travel options into points or miles. Such an interface could be especially useful for people who combine regular prices with airline or card-partner loyalty programs.
However, the availability of these new features is currently less clear. There is no separate first-party Google announcement from August 27 independently confirming the number of supported travel and airline websites, flight tracking in more than 180 countries, or global availability of search by points and miles. These details therefore currently come from the TechCrunch report.
Search is moving toward task completion
The expansion fits into a broader trend of features that can perform tasks within Search. A conversational query is no longer intended only to find links or compare options; it can also take users as far as making a reservation and payment. In the case of hotels, Google leaves the commercial and service aspects to its partners.
The practical benefit will depend on the accuracy of displayed prices, the timeliness of room availability, and the quality of claims handling. Expansion beyond the US, the list of supported partners, and the terms for flight tracking or searches using points and miles will also be important.
Users should therefore check the price, cancellation terms, and identity of the merchant actually handling the reservation before confirming an order. AI Mode may simplify the path to a purchase, but it does not change the booking partner’s responsibility for providing the service itself.
